Bruno Latour, so Graham Harman jüngst, sei "no philosopher of becoming, no 'process philosopher'": Wenn jeder Akteur gänzlich durch die Relationen zu anderen bestimmt sei, werde es nämlich nachgerade unmöglich, Prozesse anders als qua Emanation völlig neuer Akteure zu denken. Auch Foucaults Ordnung der Dinge müsste sich wohl dieser Kritik stellen: Fehlt nicht auch hier jede Vorstellung eines historischen Prozesses, der die verschiedenen Epistemen miteinander vermittelt? Diese vermeintliche Leerstelle der geschichtlichen Vermittlung scheint indes alles andere als zufällig, sondern vielmehr Ausdruck einer Kritik zu sein, die mit 'der Moderne' gerade jene Epoche anvisiert, in der geschichtliches Prozessdenken allererst entstanden ist. In Frage stehen also die jeweiligen Konzepte von Relation, die das moderne Geschichtsdenken unterlaufen und kritisch hinterfragen.
